The sentences focus on specific information mentioned in the recording. You&#8217;<span lang=\"EN-US\">ve got to <\/span>complete the gap with an appropriate word or short phrase from the recording (writing down the EXACT words you hear).\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">The good news is that the questions\u00a0<\/span>follow the order of information in the recording. The bad news is that spelling matters. If you get the right word, but the wrong spelling, then you get <strong>0 marks<\/strong>. This part of the test is generally known to be a bit of a beast, but don&#8217;t despair! With the right strategy, it&#8217;s possible to do well in it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>HOW DO YOU SLAY THE PROVERBIAL DRAGON?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-36309\" src=\"https:\/\/elearning.homestudies.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/flying-dragon-300x248.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"248\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Have you ever heard the story of St. George who killed the dragon? There are many different versions of the myth, but basically, according to folklore, St George rescued a princess who was about to be eaten by a very scary dragon. It&#8217;s said he <em>slayed<\/em> the dragon by cutting off its head.<\/p>\n<p>The verb \u2018to slay\u2019 has two meanings in English. 1) It means &#8216;to kill something&#8217;, e.g. St George <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>slayed<\/strong><\/span> the terrible beast. 2) It also means to be very good or impressive, e.g. With our help, you\u2019re going <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>to slay<\/strong><\/span> the examiners with your language skills. The latter meaning is <em>informal<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div><span lang=\"EN-US\">In case it isn\u2019t obvious,\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">i<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">n this analogy &#8211; you\u2019re St. George and Listening Part 2 is the dragon!\u00a0<\/span>To help you in your quest, you&#8217;ll need to key skills: <strong>PREDICTION<\/strong> and <strong>DICTATION<\/strong>.<\/div>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<div>Let&#8217;s look at an example:<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>St. George was a very ______ man!<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To <strong>predict<\/strong> this answer, is to guess what kind of word could go in the gap. (It&#8217;s going to be adjective and it&#8217;s probably something like &#8216;brave&#8217; or &#8216;courageous&#8217;.) To <strong>dictate<\/strong> the answer, is to hear which word is used in the recording, and write it down it correctly. To ace Listening Part 2, you have to be good at both.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>HOW DO YOU GO ABOUT PREDICTING THE ANSWERS?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-36415\" src=\"https:\/\/elearning.homestudies.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Screenshot-2022-03-20-at-11.36.47-300x298.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"298\" \/><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<div><span lang=\"EN-US\">As you prepare for <span lang=\"EN-GB\">Listening Part 2,\u00a0<\/span>try to get <\/span>used to predicting answers before you listen.
